yesterday became impromptu date night. boyfriend and i had planned to go walk around san gennaro, take in the sights and eat some italian. instead, boyfriend bought tickets to see stanton moore trio and anders osborne at brooklyn bowl.

we got there around 7 and the show wasn't supposed to start until eight. of course we sat down at the bar for some beer and food. we're both absolutely smitten with good food and good beer. we ordered the disco fries [shoe string fries, provolone, cheddar, cajun seasoning & gravy] and the fried chicken plate. fries came out first and were delicious. surprisingly, they weren't mushy from all the greasy goodness. and then came the fried chicken!
i was super excited to dig into the fried chicken since blue ribbon is known for their food. unfortunately, i was disappointed. i like my fried chicken crunchy, which was not what i received. boyfriend and i decided that his home made fried chicken is better than blue ribbon's. i swear i'm impartial. but boyfriend IS a chef and IS incredibly talented. the collard greens were good. i ate those right up. and the potatoes and gravy were yummy. i don't think i could ever make myself pour honey on my food. being a girl raised in the south, i have never done this and do not plan on starting.
my ears are still ringing from the show. stanton moore is one of the best drummers i have ever seen live. i was truly impressed for the first half of the set. after a short break, anders osborne came on stage. he was absolutely incredible. besides being a sick guitar player, he can sing and has great stage presence. i'm so pleased that boyfriend has good taste in music.
